Honorary board member and long-time MEF friend and supporter Robert Laughlin passed away May 28th, due to complications from the Coronavirus.
Our heartfelt condolences go to his wife Mimi and their children and grandchildren.Bob, a renowned author and anthropologist, was a champion of the Maya people, their languages, and their culture. He was a cofounder of Sna Jtz’ibajom in San Cristobal de Las Casas, a Maya writers and theater group that MEF has worked with for a long time.For many years, he and his family have supported indigenous language courses for Maya community members in Chiapas.
In addition, Bob and his wife have also been generous donors to our scholarship programs for Maya university students in Chiapas.We will always be grateful for Bob’s advocacy and generous and humorous spirit. We will keep his memory alive in our work on behalf of the Maya people in Chiapa
