Bulletin No. 36 April 2024

Dear Friends:

With Spring in the air here in New England, we hope this update finds you well. We are pleased to let you know that, for 2024, we are able to continue all scholarships to Maya students in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. If you follow us on social media, you already know about one major change this year, i.e., that MEF has created its own Programa de Becas Mayas MEF in collaboration with our long-term partner CIRMA in Antigua.

All students formerly under the umbrella of FEPMaya have signed up, and have now been confirmed, to receive their university scholarships through this new program, which will additionally also include ten medical students from the University Rafael Landívar. We are grateful to each person involved for working so hard to making this a smooth and successful transition. We also want to thank everyone at FEPMaya, past and present, for their years of service and commitment to the Maya students and MEF. Under their supervision and care, more than 150 students have graduated, with many of them being able to secure good professional employment in Guatemala.

Christian is studying archaeology.
Florinda is studying international trade.

Every single day, we draw strength and inspiration from our students and donors.

For example, Elvia, pictured at the top, is able to study computer sciences because the Crockett family decided to promote science studies for another Maya woman in Guatemala, their second long-term commitment to such a student, with the first one now graduated. Another generous gesture came when six students recently were in need of laptops and amazing MEF supporter Susanna Place sent funding for purchasing the units in Guatemala.

We thank each individual donor and every group and foundation for supporting our mission of making higher education possible for Maya students in their own countries.

Donating to MEF is easy, by check or by phone. For safe, online donations, one-time or recurring, please go to www.mayaedufound.org and click on the orange Donate Now. Our partner Network for Good will process your donations to MEF securely and quickly and give you an instant e-receipt. Consider becoming a recurring donor. Your regular, tax-deductible contributions to MEF, even modest amounts, will add up and make a difference in the lives of Maya students. And, remember that you can also donate stocks or IRA/401-K required distributions to MEF. Thank you.
