A scholarship fund has been set up in loving memory of Monica Goubaud to help provide access to University for a Maya woman in Guatemala. The fund will specifically be used to help someone from rural Guatemala to become a nurse or doctor; to excel in higher education and to give back to others in their community through this gift of medical training.
About Monica
Monica was the daughter of renowned Guatemalan anthropologist Antonio Goubaud Carrera, and like her father, Monica fought against racism and worked for social justice all her life. She donated to causes she believed in and invested her time in volunteering for causes she cared about. Monica travelled to Guatemala to volunteer as a teacher in MEF’s intensive English language program and loved the experience of working closely with the MEF scholarship students to personally invest in their abilities and give them life changing English language skills.
Although Monica and her family experienced great trauma and sorrow in her childhood in Guatemala and left to live in the USA, Monica never stopped working to better the lives of the Maya people.
Monica’s family has created this fund in her memory, with the hope that she can continue to create a positive wave in Guatemala, beyond the end of her life.
Attendees to Monica’s memorial are invited to donate to the fund, by clicking the link below and including the comment ‘The Goubaud Fund’ in the dedication section.
